Founded in 1985, the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) is committed to helping athletes optimise their health and performance through research and education in hydration and nutrition science. GSSI scientists study the effects of nutrition on the human body before, during and after exercise and translate this complicated science into practical applications. For nearly three decades, hundreds of amateur, elite and professional athletes have participated in testing with GSSI and in studies with university research partners around the world. GSSI's headquarters are in the United States with satellite laboratories at the IMG Academy, Florida and the Star in Frisco, Texas. Internationally, GSSI have scientists working with professional teams and athletes in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Lab and field testing enable GSSI to complete leading research with the aim of providing athletes with recommendations to help achieve their individual and performance goals.

Since 2001, the European Journal of Sport Science (EJSS) has been published as the official peer-reviewed journal of the ECSS. EJSS consists of original research articles and intra-and interdisciplinary reviews of sport science research from scientists worldwide. It publishes ten issues per year, in both print and electronic formats. Ranked in both the Thomson Reuters Journal Citations Report (Impact Factor) and Medline, EJSS is a growing journal in terms of its submissions, citations, and downloads.

ECSS fulfils its aim to promote multi-national, interdisciplinary sport science through its long-standing collaborations with Exchange Partners. The scientific exchanges play a major role for the selected Young Investigators Award (YIA) winners as they are given the opportunity to present their work at the Exchange Partners’ congress. SportEx

SportEx is the official sport science exhibition of the ECSS. Every year, exhibitors from all around the world showcase their state-of-the-art, unique products and services, which range from nutrition and performance-enhancing supplements to measurement devices and software solutions for physiological and biomechanical analysis, and also state-of-the-art training and regeneration devices as wearable technologies - to name a few.
