Fellowship
![Professor Janice Thompson](/img/mission-3/professor-janice-thompson.jpg)
Our Fellowship programme is led by Executive Board member, Professor Janice Thompson.
Being awarded Fellowship status is one of the highest honours within the ECSS. Fellows of ECSS have made substantial contributions to the development and dissemination of sport science through research. They play a vital role in supporting the College via a wide array of contributions.
To achieve Fellowship status, members of ECSS need to complete and submit a covering letter, short CV, and application that has been approved by two active Fellows. ECSS Fellowship is approved by the Credentials, Awards & Tributes Committee. This committee consists of the officiating President, the former President and the Chair of the Scientific Board. The application window takes place one time each year, from 15 February to 15 March.
Fellows play a key role in providing service to, and promoting ECSS. Examples include, but are not limited to: promoting membership; promoting attendance at the annual congress; contributing to the congress programme via submission of abstracts and proposals for Plenary and Invited Sessions; reviewing abstracts; reviewing for the European Journal of Sport Science; and supervision of contestants for the Young Investigators Award.
The College’s Fellowship continues to grow and diversify each year. There are currently over 140 active Fellows, with more to be awarded in 2023. The College encourages applications from all members who meet the qualification criteria. Members of the ECSS Executive Board have also proactively expanded outreach to all Fellows to enhance communications and provide formal opportunities for networking, sharing ideas to strengthen our organisation, and optimising engagement between Fellows and Early Career Researchers.
